A recent report hints that Sony could have secured exclusive rights to promote GTA 6 alongside the PlayStation 5 and the upcoming PS5 Pro.
Considering Sony’s long-standing relationship with Rockstar Games, which dates back to the PS2 era, it wouldn’t be a shock if these two gaming giants teamed up again to market the much-anticipated GTA 6.
GTA is one of those rare gaming franchises that almost everyone knows about, with total sales crossing 410 million units as of September 2023.
The upcoming GTA 6 is expected to boost these numbers even more, given the massive excitement surrounding its release.
Even though the game is expected to come out in fall 2025, fans are already eager for more details from Rockstar.
Some have even tried to find hidden clues about when we might see more of the game, but so far, nothing has been confirmed.
The release date for the next GTA 6 trailer is still up in the air, but rumors are spreading like wildfire.
One recent rumor suggests that Sony might have struck a deal with Rockstar to secure exclusive marketing rights for GTA 6.
According to industry insider MAGG, who shared his thoughts on the XNC Podcast, Sony has “locked down” a marketing agreement for GTA 6, which would allow them to promote the game exclusively with the PS5 and PS5 Pro.
However, this deal won’t stop the game from being available on Xbox Series X/S, but it could mean less marketing for the Xbox version.
Sony’s Big Plans for GTA 6 Marketing with PS5 Pro
MAGG also mentioned that this exclusive marketing deal would be revealed when the second GTA 6 trailer drops, which is rumored to feature the PlayStation logo.
He speculated that the trailer might debut at the 2024 Game Awards this December, though he’s not completely sure.
Another insider, RedGamingTech, supported this claim, tweeting that Sony plans to use GTA 6 as a big part of their marketing strategy for the PS5 Pro.
However, they advised taking this information with caution until it’s officially confirmed.
If PlayStation does secure exclusive marketing rights for GTA 6, it could be a big win for Sony.
This could make the PlayStation brand closely linked with GTA 6 in the eyes of gamers and might even lead to PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles being sold in bundles with the game.
Since GTA 6 will only be available on the latest consoles, its release is likely to boost sales for both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Many new buyers might lean towards the console that comes with a copy of GTA 6.
There are also rumors that the PS5 Pro might have a special setting that lets GTA 6 run at 60 frames per second, but we’ll have to wait and see if that’s true.
