GTA 6 is expected to be released in the fall of 2025. However, given the history of delays in previous GTA games, many fans are worried that this date might be too optimistic.
Recent comments from former Rockstar employee Obbe Vermeij have added to these concerns.
Vermeij, who worked as a technical director on early GTA titles before leaving Rockstar in 2009, shared some insights into how GTA VI is being developed.
Vermeij explained that delays are common in game development, but they typically aren’t announced until much closer to the release date. For example, the decision to delay GTA IV was made just four months before its original launch.
According to Vermeij, Rockstar might not be sure if they can meet the 2025 release date until around May.
He mentioned that GTA IV wasn’t ready at the time, and releasing it then would have caused major issues. However, GTA VI is much more advanced in terms of technology, which has fans hoping that there will be fewer problems leading up to its launch.
Vermeij reassured fans that Rockstar isn’t in a rush. “GTA 6 will sell for over 10 years, and there’s no competition to worry about,” he said.
He also pointed out that Rockstar won’t release the game until they’re completely satisfied with it, regardless of what any trailer says.
Unfortunately, the news for PC players isn’t as promising. Vermeij joked that they might have to wait until 2027 for a PC version. While many fans were shocked by this, it’s unclear if he was serious or just teasing.
Now, we’ll have to wait a few more months to see if GTA VI will stay on track for its 2025 release or if another delay is on the horizon. Fingers crossed!
