Rockstar Games hasn’t officially shared the GTA 6 file size yet, but some clues suggest it will be huge.
It’s no shocker that GTA 6 is expected to be one of the biggest games ever, both in hype and scale. Considering GTA 5 was released back in 2013, it’s likely that GTA 6 has been in the works for over a decade.
But how much space will you need to clear on your hard drive to play GTA 6?
GTA 6 File Size Expectations
While Rockstar hasn’t confirmed the exact file size for GTA 6, early predictions suggest it could be as large as 200 GB.
A Reddit user named Denso95 analyzed the leaked developer build of the game in 2022, estimating it to be around 80 GB. Based on this, they guessed the final version could be just under 200 GB.
Looking at previous GTA games, which have gotten bigger with each release, this estimate seems pretty likely. However, keep in mind that these are just guesses for now.
We’ll get the official file size when GTA 6 becomes available for digital pre-order, probably later this year, as it will be listed on PlayStation and Xbox stores.
Previous Game Sizes: What They Tell Us
Here’s a look at some recent Rockstar Games releases and their file sizes:
Game | File Size |
---|---|
Red Dead Redemption 2 | 120 GB |
GTA 5 | 111.37 GB |
GTA 4 Complete Edition | 32 GB |
GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition | 19 GB |
As you can see, the jump from GTA 4 to GTA 5 nearly quadrupled the file size. While we don’t expect GTA 6 to be 400 GB, it’s clear that it will require a lot more storage space than previous titles.
Considering that GTA 6’s map is rumored to be twice as big as GTA 5’s, the file size will likely reflect this.
Additionally, the 2022 leaks suggest that GTA 6 will have many more building interiors, which will also add to the storage requirements.
Is GTA 6 Going to Be 750 GB? Debunking the Rumor
There’s a rumor floating around that GTA 6 will need a massive 750 GB of storage, but this seems highly unlikely. The leak that sparked this rumor has no evidence to back it up.
Even though GTA 6 is expected to be huge, the idea of it taking up three-quarters of a terabyte is pretty far-fetched.
For one, this would make the game nearly unplayable on a standard PS5, which has only 667 GB of usable storage.
Here’s a list of some of the biggest games out there and their file sizes:
Game | File Size |
---|---|
Halo: The Master Chief Collection | 137 GB |
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition | 120 GB |
Red Dead Redemption 2 | 120 GB |
Microsoft Flight Simulator | 157 GB |
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare / Black Ops Cold War | 175 GB |
Quantum Break (With TV Pack Installed) | 178 GB |
Ark: Survival Evolved (& DLC) | 200 GB+ |
Considering these massive games, it would be surprising if GTA 6 hit 750 GB.
However, it wouldn’t be shocking if the game reached around 300 GB, given its scale and the potential for extra content from Rockstar Games.
